Stop Embarrassing Yourself By Saying "Name Sake Or Name Same" : This Is The Correct Word

Most Nigerians are found of using name sake in wrong sentences . Actually, name sake is a right word but does not necessarily mean those bearing the same name as it has its own separate meaning.

Most time I do come across people who bear the same name calling themselves name sake. But actually that is not the real word as name sake still mean another thing.

The definition of a namesake is a person named after someone. An example of a namesake is a son given the exact same name as his father for example, a man bearing john and naming his son john(jnr).

The word namefellow or name-fellow, although rather obscure, does have exactly the meaning you're after, without the connotation of namesake that both people are named after the same person. Namefellow mean an individual with whom one shares a surname or given name or both.

It actually mean those bearing the same name. so next time when you see someone bearing the same name with you, he/she is your name fellow not name sake.
