These are the African Wonderkids In World Football

Breaking through in world football can be very difficult for young footballers as often talent is never enough. In fact, these young footballers have to rely on a lot of luck to be able perform and impress. And beyond all of this, you also have to add the pressure of delivering some magic to ensure you will get selected at every game. For young African players, these pressures are in multiple folds because not only are you in a race against time, you are also in a race against yourself because most big clubs are never patient enough to give a young African footballer a chance except he is made and established somewhere else. I have made a list of young African players who are doing the magic despite the odds.

#5 Dayot Upamecano - RB Leibzig



He is one of the players touted to be on his way out of the German club this summer with Arsenal and Bayern Munich keen on his signature. Over the last few seasons, Upamecano has become one of the most exciting centrebacks to watch in the game. Upamecano who is a Guinea-Bissau international who is also eligible to play for the French national team on the account of being born there has been so reliable and incredible for his German team. At just 21, he is one of very few players of African extract, whose prospect is so mouthwatering.

#4 Boubakary Soumare - LOSC Lille


This young midfield dynamo who has in recent times set the French league on fire with brilliant performances week in and out has been the subject of a move to the English premiership in the last few months. With Chelsea manager Frank Lampard seeing him as a perfect addition to his midfield that will add steel and stability to his squad. Soumare has been compared in terms of skill and presence to French midfield stalwart, Paul Pogba and it is only left to be seen if he will live up to the potential. At the age of 21, the world is literally at his feet.

#3 Jeremie Frimpong - Celtic

This Manchester city academy graduate who left left city on loan to Celtic has only played top flight football for about eight months and already has left sparks in his wake. With premier league side like Southampton keen on his signature, his future seems ripe for the taking.

#2 Eduardo Camavinga - Stade Rennais

Just in the midst of his breakout season in the French ligue 1, Camavinga has already established himself as a key figure in Stade Rennais Champions League position charge for the next season. The Angolan born 19 year old wonderkid has already represented France in the U21 category with big clubs like Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and PSG monitoring his progress, his future will be so bright, it will be blinding.

Saka has been one of the most consistent performers at Arsenal for the last two seasons and what many might not know about him is how old he really is. Still 19 but with the calm and composure of a player in his mid-twenties, it is not a wonder that Arsenal is fighting tooth and nail to keep him at the club. The young English international with Nigerian parents have been so impressive that he is sometimes preferred over players that are even more naturally suited to the left back position that he plays for the Gunners.
