"I was born in Lagos, my parents are Nigerians and playing for England was a privilege"

Lagos born and former England striker Eniola Aluko has said despite being born in Nigeria to Nigerian parents, she doesn't regret her action by playing for England female team ahead of Nigeria Super Falcons.




Aluko who played for Chelsea and Juventus female teams during her playing days had one hundred and two (102) caps for the Lionesses is now Aston Villa's female team sporting director.


Eniola Aluko who was born in Nigeria chose to play for English female national team while her younger brother Sone Aluko who was born in England played for Nigeria super eagles.





In a live chat on Instagram, Eniola Aluko said:

"I was born in Lagos. I am Nigerian descent so British-Nigerian. I am very proud of my Nigerian background, both my parents are Nigerians. My mother is very hardworking when I was growing up, she worked very hard with me and my brother at the same time. We have got a lot of Nigerian values instilled.





She continued by saying:

" I love it, getting one cap for England was a privilege but to get 102 in eleven years is not something I expected at all, especially for me as a Nigerian. My brother played for Nigeria so choosing to play for England was something that made me proud and doing it for such a long time, scoring lots of goals, traveling the world, playing with people who are still my friends to this day meant a lot to me." She concluded.




The Nigerian born player enjoyed her playing days with England female national team before hanging up her boots for national team in 2016. She has now been chosen as Aston Villa sporting director after her retirement from football last season.
