'Am Not Happy To End Like This' - Why Ziyech Broke Down In Tears During Ajax Farewell.

Let’s remember that Chelsea have already made a new signing for next season, which in all fairness is probably the next time we will see the lads in action again.

Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed personal terms with Hakim Ziyech and the Moroccan will join from Ajax at the end of the season





And a statement released via Chelsea’s official website confirmed that the deal has now been officially rubber stamped.

Hakim Ziyech will join the Premier League club on July 1st 2020 and will finish the season in Amsterdam.

The clubs have agreed a deal of €40 million euros. This sum could potentially increase to a maximum of €4 million, with variable factors.

The 26-year-old has been with Ajax since 2016 and has grown to become a key player for Erik ten Hag’s side. His impressive run with the Eredivisie leaders drew attention from several European giants and Chelsea managed to pip a host of clubs for his services.






However, Ziyech was hopeful of parting Amsterdam with another Eredivisie title under his belt, with his side leading the table over AZ Alkmaar on goal difference.

However, whilst some leagues have opted to cancel their leagues and freeze the league table, Ajax have been told they will not be crowned champions.

Following that, Ziyech was denied the chance to leave Ajax in style, so he was given a dramatic farewell ceremony by the club instead which tugged at the heartstrings.

Ziyech was brought to the Tuschinski theatre in Amsterdam to be shown a series of clips and messages, where he admitted it was hugely difficult to leave Ajax without a proper goodbye.

Ziyech was then shown a selection of messages from his Ajax teammates, past and present, wishing him good luck at Chelsea – with even Tottenham rival Davinson Sanchez sending in a video clip.

‘I enjoyed sharing the pitch with you, I enjoyed your brilliance,’ said skipper Daley Blind. ‘I’ll keep enjoying you and following you at Chelsea. Good luck, we will meet again.’ ‘Beautiful, beautiful,’ said Ziyech at all the lovely words, though it was a final message from the Moroccan’s mother that really sent him over the edge as he teared up when she popped up on screen. ‘I’m really happy for you that you will go to London,’ she said. ‘Do your best, take good care, and behave like a gentleman. I love you and I am proud of you. Good luck in London.’






The Ajax star was hit hard by his mother’s message.

Ziyech had to take a moment to compose himself as tears streamed down his face, saying: ‘Of course, I know what I’m doing it for. It’s the words your mother often says to you.

My mother. ‘She’s a proud woman. I can see that she’s proud although she tries to hide it. Just knowing the hard life that she’s had, you know. ‘She came her at a young age, raised nine kids. Eight or nine. Lost her husband too soon. And then you’re on your own.

It’s all for her. I do it because I love it, but it’s all for her. If it wasn’t for her, I’d have quit football a long time ago.’ Asked how he will look back on his time at Ajax, he added: ‘Proud feelings. Warm feelings. And that I will always feel welcome here. That is most important.’






Chelsea fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate because we have officially confirmed our first summer arrival for this year. And who better than Ajax's Hakim Ziyech to kick things off?

The Blues saw Ziyech up close and personal in the Champions League this season. Particularly his imperious performance at Stamford Bridge, where he was the heartbeat of Erik ten Hag’s side in that incredible 4-4 draw.

That night at Stamford Bridge was full of goals, drama and fireworks - and that was just from Ziyech’s performance alone. The Moroccan assisted three of Ajax’s strikes at Stamford Bridge, including a wicked cross into the box headed home by Quincy Promes. He truly shone in SW6, giving Chelsea fans a taste of what was to come - even if they didn't know it at the time.






The performance was a showcase of the best of Ziyech and what he can offer to Chelsea. The Blues have been lacking a truly creative attacking player since the departure of Eden Hazard, and while they already have excellent choices among their ranks, the Belgian’s absence has been evident.

And there’s good reason for the Chelsea faithful to be welcoming his arrival with great delight. Ziyech, without meaning to demean an entire league, has simply outgrown the Eredivisie, in the process producing some ridiculous numbers. For example, since joining his present club, he’s been involved in 89 goals, scored 38 himself and created a further 51 for his teammates. It doesn’t stop there. The man dubbed “wizard” has created 421 chances, which is 134 more than the next best.



Christian Pulisic was supposed to be the answer to taking up Hazard's throne, but injuries have halted his debut season in the Premier League. Pulisic’s time will come and his quality will shine through - there’s no doubt about that - yet he could truly flourish alongside Ziyech.

Chelsea need a positive attacker with the credentials evident, and have found exactly that in Ziyech. A fresh, experienced and exciting winger, he is the man who can take the Blues’ attack to a new level, one that could be able to compete at the highest level.
