1 CiChlid hybrid fish






A freshwater fish species may get impregnated by growing male sex organs and then mixing sperm and eggs in their own mouths, scientists said. A team of UK researchers observed the rare technique called "selfing," which focused on the patterns of self-fertilization of cichlid hybrid fish, a species that is often kept as pets in aquariums. The creatures may smash their own fins and then grow healthy offspring multiple times over the course of a year.


The way it works is simple: the fish must ejaculate into the water after forming the male reproductive organs, and then suck the fluid into their mouths, where a batch of eggs is waiting for fertilization.

When the magic happens, at least four, perfectly normal fish all of which can reproduce naturally, will then be born. Selfing is fairly rare, it is known to occur elsewhere in the kingdom of animals, typically due to a lack of mates available, researchers said.

2. The whiptail Lizard






The New Mexico whiptail is diurnal and insectivorous, like most other whiptail lizards.If approached, they are alert, lively and fast moving, darting for cover. These are found in a wide range of semi-arid environments including grasslands, rocky fields, shrubland, or forest on the mountainside. Reproduction takes place by parthenogenesis, with up to four unfertilized eggs laid in mid-summer, and hatching about eight weeks later.






The New Mexico whiptail lizard is a crossbreed of a desert-dwelling western whiptail and the tiny striped whiptail that prefers grasslands. The lizard is an exclusively female species that reproduces by parthenogenesis by releasing an egg.




Despite its asexual reproduction and being an all-female species, the whiptail still engages in matching behavior with other females of its own species , resulting in the common nickname "lesbian lizards." A common theory is that this conduct stimulates ovulation because those who don't "mate" don't lay eggs.

3. Wild pit vipers




Parthenogenesis has been recorded in many species of captive snakes but it was long thought that only when there were no males around was something females did. These snakes are half their mother's descendants, and they are highly inbred.

It was the first time that parthenogenesis was recorded in wild-caught snakes, which probably had male exposure. One of the baby snakes has become healthy offspring ever since.

4. Saw Fish



The species in question was the endangered, parthenogenetically reproducing small tooth sawfish which had never been previously reported. A last-ditch effort for women to pass their genes on. Despite being inbred the young sawfish were happy and thriving.

We don't know why the small-tooth female sawfish opted for a virgin birth. Yet, when population rates are small, it may be a survival tactic. If they can't find a mate, it's possible for these females to pass on their genes as a last-ditch attempt.

4. Komodo Dragon




Komodo dragons, including invertebrates, birds , and mammals, hunt and ambush preys. They have been alleged to have a venomous bite; two glands are in the lower jaw that secrete several toxic proteins.




The Komodo dragon hunts in the afternoon, but remains in the shade throughout the hottest part of the day. These special places of rest, usually located on ridges with cool sea breezes, are marked with droppings and clear of vegetation. They act as strategic places to ambush deer from.

As an ectotherm, though it exhibits some nocturnal activity, it is most active in the day. The Komodo dragon can stand on its hind legs and use its tail as a support to catch out-of-reach prey. As it matures, its grips are primarily used as weapons, as their large size makes climbing impractical.
