See the goalkeeper who won Man of the Match Award after conceding 10 goals in a match, sets record

17-year-old Rostov goalkeeper Denis Popov, has made the headlines after receiving Man of the Match Award despite conceding 10 goals against Sochi in the Russian Premier League. The young goalkeeper has also set a new record for having the highest number of saves in a single match (15) in the Russian Premier League.


Sochi took on Rostov in the Russian Premier League in a match which ended 10-1 in favour of Sochi yesterday. Rostov had to field in young players aged 16-19 after six of their first team players had contracted coronavirus. According to the club statement, they claimed that Football Club Sochi turned down their offer to postpone the match as they insisted that the match must hold. As a result of that, Rostov had no option than to field in young players to complete their squad.





Rostov took the lead in the first minute of the game but they were pegged back following an own goal from Abramov in the 7th minute. Sochi forward, Kokorin, gave them the lead in the 15th minute. However, Denis Popov denied Sochi their third goal of the game after saving Zabolotnyi's penalty in the 26th minute. Kokorin scored his second of the game in the 44th minute and Zabolotnyi who had earlier missed from the penalty spot scored Sochi's fourth goal of the game in added time of the first half as Sochi entered into the break with a 4-1 lead.






As the second half kicked off, it didn't take too long before Zabolotnyi scored his second of the game in the 47th minute with Kokorin getting his hat trick five minutes later. Further goals from Novoseltsev, Koldunov and a brace from Poloz condemned Rostov to a 10-1 loss against Sochi.






However, Rostov's 17-year-old goalkeeper, Denis Popov, made history in the Russian Premier League after he made an incredible 15 saves in a match which included one penalty. Denis Popov now holds the record for most saves in a single match (15) in the Russian Premier League.
