Wealth and affluence are very sweet. It is the aim of every young person to be wealthy and influential. While this is good, it is better to study those who were once wealthy, and see how they ended. In this article, I will be taking you through the story of Elizabeth Anne Holmes who became the richest lady at the age of nineteen.

She admires the founder of Apple in terms of dressing. Hence, she is always on black sweeter with turtleneck.

Elizabeth Anne Holmes was born on the 3rd of February 1984. She is a lady who dreaded the syringe. Hence, this led her to researching ways to test ones blood without having to make do with large blood samples. In 2003, she came up with the idea. In her research, she discovered that one can actually test blood by taking just small samples from the fingertip (which is called finger sticking or finger picking).

This led her to establish “The Theranos”. In December 2004, she was able to raise $6 million to fund the firm. The company has been experiencing giant strides since inception.

In 2013, she partnered with Walgreens to launch the in-store-blood samples collection.
In 2014, her name appeared in about 18 U.S. Patents and 66 foreign patents.




In 2015, she signed agreement with Cleveland clinic, American health caritas and capital blue Cross to use the Theranos technology in their operations. This same year, she was named by Forbes as "the youngest and self made female billionaire". The Forbes valuation was on the basis of her $9 billion company. Out of the $9 billion, she has a stake of $4.5 billion (that is, 50% stake).

In 2016, there were negative fillers from different quarters on her 'blood testing technology". Soon, her operations we're published in top Newspapers. The last shell that broke the camel's back was when "John Carreyrou" released a bombshell article showing clearly the falsity of her blood testing claims. Hence, misleading private investors and government.

Moreso, investigations were carried out and it was found to be true. Thus, Forbes revised its former claims of her from $4.5 billion networth to $0 and she was named one of the World's Most Disappointing Leaders. See the picture below:

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission in 2018 charged Theranos and Holmes for a massive fraud through the exaggerated claims of her company's technological capacity. In other words, she was charged for deceiving private investors and the government.

Furthermore, she settled the charges by:

1. Paying $500,000 fine,

2. Returning shares to the company,

3. Mandating her to give off her voting right in Theranos,

4. Barring her from holding any office in public companies for the next ten years.

Upon her recovery from this, she was indicted again for a nine counts and two counts charge of wire fraud and being a party to it. This was validated on the premise that she distributed blood tests with falsified results to consumers.
