"We cannot keep on relying on dodgy penalties to win" Man United fans react to UEL win in Germany

Hard fought victory for Manchester United. The Red Devils triumphed over Danish opposition 1 – 0 ,thanks to January signing Bruno Fernandes’ penalty in extra time.

Manchester United had to wait till extra time before they could see off FC Copenhagen to qualify for the semi-final of the Europa League.




Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ringed 3 changes to his most frequent XI as Sergio Romero started in goal for the Red Devils. Eric Bailly and Fred also deputised in place of Lindelof and Matic. Former Man United youngster, Guillermo Varela also started for Copenhagen. The right back was given a debut by Luis Van Gaal.





A one-sided affair was expected, but the opening proceedings promised nothing like that as both turns to attack.





The Danish giants had a change of shape as Boilescen was replaced by Bengtsson after he looked to have pulled a muscle. This sprung some life into the team as they had a couple of chances to take the lead.




United got blazing towards the end of the first half as they had 3 beautiful opportunities to score. They did score, but it was rightly ruled off for an offside.
Moments after Martial miscued a pass, Rashford's long range shot was blocked by the Copenhagen's goal keeper before Mason Greenwood converted cooly from close range. VAR checks showed he was offside and the game remained barren till the break.




The second half was almost similar to the first half. Manchester United struggled to break the drfrnse of FC Copenhagen. Karl-Johan Johnsson pulled brilliant saves for the Danish club to deny Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and United attack in general from scoring.


Copenhagen also had their chances of scoring in the second half but some wasteful finishing from the Danish helped Manchester United from conceding late in the game. The second half ended goalless, both sides headed into extra time to determine if they could get a goal before heading into penalties.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made changes in Manchester United attack going into extra time. Spanish forward, Juan Mata came in for English youngster Mason Greenwood.

The change yielded positive outcome for Manchester United as they pressed Copenhagen more and were rewarded with a penalty. French forward, Anthony Martial was fouled in the box few minutes after the commencement of extra time. Bruno Fernandes steeped up and scored for United from the spot in the 95th minute.




Marcus Rashford just wasn’t at his best on the night, the young English forward missed a golden opportunity to double Manchester United’s lead during extra time.

Rashford was put through on goal, just one on one with Copenhagen’s goal keeper, he failed to score from close range even though he was onside. The goal keeper pushed Rashford shot away from goal. More chances fell to United to seal the game, Mata’s shot was saved while Lindelof rebound hit the woodwork.





Copenhagen pressed Manchester United for an equalizer deep into the end of extra time but Manchester United defense where at alert to foil any attack from the Danish club. The game ended 1 goal to nil in favor of the Red Devils. The English Club are through to the Semifinal of the Europa League.
