Since 1966 no player has done fifteen dribbles in a FIFA world cup match but the Nigerian midfield maestro did it at USA 94. Okocha who wore the number 10 shirt for Nigeria during matches is known for his magical displays of football. Many football fans think Nigeria has not been able to replace Jay Jay since his retirement.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for the most dribble in a match after completing twenty dribbles against Benfica FC during his reign at Manchester united. Lionel messi also has similar record in 2007 when he registered more dribbles in a single La liga game than any other player with 15 dribbles.
However, none of these players is able to beat the Jay Jay Okocha record for the most dribbles in FIFA world cup match. The match against Italy in the USA 94 remain a heart breaking moment for Nigerians. In the course of the game, Emmanuel Amunike gave Nigeria a goal ahead but it was a nightmare for Nigerians as the Italy tallismastic striker, Roberto Baggio, scored a die minutes goal and a another to knock Nigeria out of the tournament.
Jay-Jay Okocha is a phenomenal player who distinguishes himself on the field of play with charismatic dribbles and commanding passes. We hope Nigeria can produce another football genius like Okocha in time to come.
