SARS Was Not Set Up To Fight Crime, Its Set Up To Kill & Destroy Youths - Sowore Speaks

The right activist and convener of Revolution Now movement, Omoyele Sowore has weighed in on the recent reports of brutality, harassment, killing and extortion by the special unit of Nigeria Police Force, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)





SARS is a dreaded unit of the Police Force and was created solely to combat criminal and armed robbery attacks. The unit however has morphed into one that harasses young Nigerian youths in recent times.


There are growing reports of unabated attacks on innocent young citizens by the operatives of SARS. Their nefarious activities include harassing young people who dress well or drive fancy car, often labeling them fraudsters and extorting money from them.





Other times, they have been involved in controversial deaths of young Nigerians either by chasing them to their deaths with their cars or by accidental discharge of firearm.


Recently, a video made rounds yesterday which shows a team of SARS operative speeding off with a Nigerian man's white SUV car after allegedly killing him in Ughelli, Delta State.


The report has once again reignited the call to end SARS by Nigerians on social media. Anger and frustrations can be gleaned from the reactions to the recent death of the young man on the hands of SARS.





Omoyele Sowore has joined the long list of Nigerians calling for the end of the dreaded unit and slamming it for derailing from its main purpose to killing the youths of Nigeria.


Sowore made his reaction on his Twitter page as he calls for protests to end the activities of SARS.

The special unit nefarious activities have on several occasions triggered protests off and on social media with many Nigerian calling for a complete scrap of the department but with no much result.
