Nigeria Has No Plan Of Imposing Fresh Lockdown” – Lai Mohammed




The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said that the federal government has no plans of imposing a fresh lockdown as the country battles a second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister said this at a press conference in Lagos, where he expressed the federal government’s displeasure over non-adherence to all protocols outlined by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

FG To Flag-Off 774,000 Jobs On Tuesday

The Federal Government says it has concluded all arrangements about the extended Special Public Works (SPW) Programme designed to engage 774,000 unemployed persons nationwide after three consecutive postponements.


A formal invitation sent to Daily Trust on Monday morning to provide media coverage for the flag-off, noted that it would come up Tuesday January 5, 2021 at the Sports Complex (Old Parade Ground) Area 10 Garki, Abuja by 11:00 am.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, had on Sunday night via his official Twitter handle, explained that the President, Muhammadu Buhari had approved the commencement of the initiative.

PDP Failing As Opposition – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, yesterday hit at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its ceaseless criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.

He accused the opposition party of messing up while in government and also doing worse even as leading opposition party.

At a press conference in Lagos, the minister condemned what he called the “constant infantile press releases by the unserious, unimaginative and drab opposition, which misconstrues opposition as constantly shooting down anything the government of the day does or badmouthing whatever Mr President does or says. There is more to opposition than predictable and bring-it-down-at-all-cost media interventions. They messed up in government, and they are messing up even more in opposition. No lessons learnt either way.”

Magistrates Block Ayade’s Office Over 2-Yr Unpaid Salaries

Thirty magistrates in Cross River State yesterday blocked Governor Ben Ayade’s office in Calabar over non-payment of their two-year salaries.

The magistrates, armed with placards with various inscriptions, chanted solidarity songs while they blocked the second gate of the premises.

Speaking to newsmen in Calabar, the state’s Chief Magistrate, Solomon Abuo, said the protest was their last resort after several pleas and correspondences to the state government yielded no desired result. They threatened to boycott courts if the government failed to meet their demand.

Boko Haram: 7 Killed, Soldiers Wounded In Chibok Village

At least 7 persons were killed including six soldiers when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military base in the southern part of Borno state on Sunday evening, sources said.

It was learnt that the terrorist stormed a military settlement in Kuda, near Chibok town at exactly 4:30 pm engaging troops in a gun battle killing 6 soldiers including a master warrant officer.

A member of the vigilante group, Yohanna Bitrus said the attackers burnt down houses numbering 40 and carted away three vehicles after they had looted the whole community.

Boko Haram, Bandits: FG earmarks N675bn for procurement of arms, ammunition— Ndume

The Federal Government has earmarked N675 billion for the procurement of arms and equipment; and training of 8,000 soldiers to end Boko Haram insurgency and banditry in the north of the country.


The over a decade long insurgency has claimed 36,000 lives with property worth $9.2 billion (about N3.42 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe statewere disclosed in Maiduguri, by the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, while lamenting on the ill-equipped Nigerian Army to fight insurgents in the northeast.

Enugu schools resume Jan18 – Commissioner

The Enugu State Ministry of Education says all schools in the state will resume on Jan. 18, 2021. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Monday.

Eze noted that the decision was reached at a meeting between the ministry and major stakeholders in the education sector on Monday.

The commissioner said that all schools in the state have been advised to ensure full compliance with the NCDC guidelines for the containment of COVID-19 before resumption.
Anambra 2021: PDP orders members to withdraw all litigations against party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked its members in court against the leadership of the party in Anambra to withdraw all litigations ahead of the November governorship poll in the state.

The South-East National Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, made the request in Awka during a meeting of the Zonal Working Committee with stakeholders in the state on Monday.

Odefa said that it was in the overriding interest of the party for peace and unity to reign ahead of the poll. According to him, the party needs unity and cannot afford any court distractions, if it must form the next government in Anambra. He, therefore, urged the aggrieved party members to direct their complaints to the zonal leadership for amicable and dispassionate resolution.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has reiterated his administration’s resolve to ensure that the state remains the safest and most-secured in the country.

Ugwuanyi said this on Monday in Enugu at the public presentation of a book entitled: “Effective Policing and Security in South-East Nigeria’’. Three brothers have been arrested for allegedly killing security guard in Ogun
