Carragher: Everton owner & chairman are split over what they want from a manager

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright are split over what they want from a manager amid increasing uncertainty regarding the future of current boss Marco Silva.
Silva's status as Everton manager is under major threat, with the club languishing in 16th place in the Premier League and having lost seven games in the top flight already this season.
Moshiri owns 17,465 shares, a total of 49.9 per cent, while Kenwright owns 4,256 shares.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher, who grew up as an Everton supporter, feels that the divide between Moshiri and Kenwright over Silva's potential successor is a major problem.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: 'We spoke about Emery and the crowd earlier, and this felt like a line had been crossed (Everton losing to Norwich). That was the worst result and the worst day in his Everton tenure.
'The tough run of games is keeping him in the job. Last year, he had a good run in tough fixtures. But also if you’re bringing in a new manager into the club, you wouldn’t want to give them that to start with.
'I actually think Marco Silva will have the Leicester game and the Liverpool game. We know how big the Liverpool game is for everyone in the city, but certainly for Everton, and if that goes badly I don’t see how he moves on from that.'
Carragher added that the Everton supporters that he has spoken to would be against David Moyes returning to the club.
Moyes earned much praise for the work that he did at Everton between 2002 and 2013, but has struggled since then.
'I’ve actually spoken to a load of Everton fans over the weekend, I’ve got loads of Everton fans in my family. Everyone you mention, they say no.
'There’s talk of David Moyes coming back, in almost a Big Sam role, in terms of keeping them up. They’re so against that, you would not believe.
'I can’t believe because of the job he’d done. It’s like they’re judging him on what he’s done since Everton. They don’t want Eddie Howe. There’s talk of Mark Hughes.
'There’s a big split in the boardroom, with Bill Kenwright on one side and Moshiri on the other. And I think they’re both wanting different things with the manager, and I think that’s a massive problem for them.'
Carragher suggested that former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, who is currently Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City, may be the solution going forward.
He said: 'I don’t know if the one is maybe Arteta going forward if there was to be a change, with Everton connections and working with probably the best manager in the world at City. But I think there is going to be a change because I just can’t see what Everton can get out of those results.
'I’ll be massively surprised if Everton aren’t in the bottom three after these fixtures.'
The pressure on Silva increased further following Everton's 2-0 defeat to Norwich on Saturday. They return to action on Sunday with an away game against Leicester before facing Liverpool away in the Merseyside derby three days later.
