Harry Wilson future at Liverpool takes sharper focus as one obstacle remains

Having helped Wales to Euro 2020 qualification, scoring in the first of their crucial double-header against Azerbaijan before coming off the bench against Hungary, the intrigue around Harry Wilson's Liverpool future has come into sharper focus.

Wilson has performed consistently well for the Cherries so far this season under Eddie Howe's management, scoring from long range on multiple occasions and showcasing his talent as a free-kick specialist - as demonstrated against Manchester City.

In a special Blood Red podcast, Bournemouth Echo sports reporter Tom Crocker explained how the Welshman is getting on down on the south coast.

“He has not looked out of place which I think is the biggest compliment you can pay him when he hasn't played any Premier League football before.

“He is showing he can definitely get goals at this level and he is now establishing himself in the team,” Crocker told Blood Red.

“It is his first season in the Premier League and people need to remember that he's jumped up from the Championship and seems to be adapting to it really quickly.”

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane currently standing in his way, Wilson will clearly have to bide his time in waiting for an opportunity at Anfield.

“I have seen him almost exclusively play as a right-winger and to displace Salah or Mane is going to be difficult to do,” said Crocker.

“His stats at the end of the season will look quite good, if he keeps playing the way he is, and I imagine he will become a regular player in the Premier League next season.”

He has scored four goals for the Cherries and is second only to striker Callum Wilson in the club's scoring charts.

“He played his best game against Manchester United and then scored against Newcastle United the following week,” Crocker said.

“Everyone has seen the goal he scored against Manchester City as well, which is obviously a big thing for him so early in his time at Bournemouth.

“I think it will take a bit of luck and opportunity to get in the Liverpool team, but I think that could happen if not next season then definitely the season after.”
