Ronaldo: Vinicius saved Real Madrid

Vinicius hasn't quite hit the heights of his 2018/19 breakout season this year, but Ronaldo Nazario has defended the 19-year-old.

The Real Valladolid president urged fans not to forget how Vinicius helped steady the ship for Real Madrid during a turbulent campaign last year.

"He is a great player," he told Fox Sports Brazil when discussing the young talent.

"He had a fantastic season last year and practically saved Real Madrid from a bigger failure."

"Expectations are very high and he can still improve.

"Making it more difficult for him is the fact that Rodrygo has come in and done very well, showing calmness and surprising many."

Asked if he'd accept taking Vinicius on loan at Real Valladolid, Ronaldo had no doubts.

"I'd love to be able to count on him," he said.
