Spurs Were Lucky I Have PL Experience - Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says Tottenham are “lucky” he boasts such vast experience in the Premier League after opening his reign in north London with a 3-2 victory over West Ham.

Spurs appeared to be on course for a comfortable afternoon at the London Stadium, as they took in a derby date with local rivals.

Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane established a three-goal lead inside 49 minutes, with Mourinho enjoying a dream start to life in a new post.

The Portuguese was, however, to see his side left hanging on towards the end, with West Ham pulling two goals back before running out of time.

He told BT Sport: “I was really happy before we conceded the two goals, we were playing well, bringing to the game things we had tried in training. And we had the ball to make it 4-0 and kill the game.

“We are lucky I have so many years in the Premier League so I told the players at half-time 'even if we are 3-0 in the 85th minute the game will still be open'.

“But there were also many factors. The emotions of losing the previous manager, people coming back from national teams and fatigue in the last 20 minutes."
