Match Report

Gareth Bale saw a goal disallowed as Barcelona and 

Real Madrid played out a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou on 

Wednesday.

LaLiga's top two went into the contest level on points 

this season and with 72 wins each from previous league 

meetings, and there was nothing to separate them in a 

tense clash in Catalonia.

The match was rearranged from October after the initial 

date became a security risk due to the prospect of 

Catalan independence protests, and there were fans 

inside and outside the stadium making their voices 

heard over one of Spain's most divisive issues.

The action on the pitch was a little less fraught, Bale's 

second-half strike - ruled out for offside - representing 

the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.

the game. The Frenchman shoots low on his left foot 

towards the bottom-left corner, but Ter Stegen gets

OFF THE LINE! Casemiro comes inches away from the 

opener, only to see his downward header cleared off the 

line by Pique with a stooping header. Barcelona switch 

off from the corner to allow Isco space to launch a 

cross 

into the box. Casemiro meets the delivery and heads 

towards goal, but the veteran defender moves back 

swiftly to clear his effort away.

31' SAVE! Ramos makes goal-line clearance

BLOCK! Ramos denies Messi with goal-saving block on 

the line. Alba makes a successful probe and whips a 

dangerous cross towards the middle. Sergi Roberto 

almost connects, but Courtois punches it away from 

hime. Messi latches on to the rebound acrobatically and 

his effort travels towards goal, only to see his effort 

turned away by a backpeddling Ramos.

32' CHANCE! Valverde's long shot inches wide

CLOSE! Valverde has space to launch a strike at goal 

from 25 yards. The midfielder connects with a sweet 

strike that has Ter Stegen concerned. It travels past his 

gloves, but drifts inches past the right-hand post.

41' MISS! Alba's shot inches wide

CHANCE! ALBA HAS TO SCORE! Messi threads the 

needle with an incisive pass to release Alba through on 

goal. The Spaniard only has Courtois to beat, but he 

guides his left-footed strike wide of the right post. A 

total lack of composure.

60' Unbelievable! What a miss from Messi

CHANCE! Messi releases Griezmann down the left flank 

and he beats the challenge of Carvajal. The Frenchman 

squares the ball back to Messi on the charge, but the 

Argentine scuffs his effort at goal. What are the 

chances of that? A rare miss from Messi.

72' OFFSIDE! Bale's goal disallowed

DISALLOWED GOAL! Bale converts from close range to 

dispatch Mendy's cross to the back post, steering his 

effort past Ter Stegen, but the goal is disallowed for 

offside against the Madrid full-back from Casemiro's 

ball over the top.

78' Yellow Card! Ramos booked

Messi draws a mistake from Ramos, who cynically pulls 

down the Argentine. Ramos is booked for the incident 

and keeps talking to the referee after the fact. He has to 

be careful.
