Jemimah Osunde embarrassment on Twitter is a lesson for every lady

Last night, award-winning Nollywood actress, Jemimah Osunde took to her twitter account to rant about a guy who consistently asked her out for over ten months and has now just gotten engaged. The actress was appalled by the fact that the mystery guy could move on so quickly and get ready to start life with another lady so soon.

In an unexpected twist, the actress got a totally different response from what one would have expected. Fans and followers descended on her instead, asking why she couldn’t be happy for the newly engaged couple but would rather come online to throw shades.

The tweet got a lot of backlash as well as a few supporters who felt she was within her rights to speak openly about her grievances.

Twitter has since gone agog with the issue and Jemimah is a top trending topic on the app at this moment.

As little as it may seem, there is a lot for ladies to learn in this trending issue and I have listed three of them in this article.

1. No one owes you anything simply because they asked you for a relationship.

This has become a common feature with many ladies these days. When a guy reaches out to them for a relationship, they suddenly begin to feel like they have one over the guy. Despite not getting into a relationship with the guy, he immediately loses every right to make other choices. These ladies would either gloat or start hating when the guy gets into another relationship with another lady. Such is the situation with Jemimah. That a guy has asked you out once does not make you a premium subscribers to the goings-on in his life, neither does he owe you any explanations for his choices, especially if you didn’t agree to date him.

2. A guy has the right to move on after failing to get you into a relationship.

When a guy asks you out, it’s because he is interested in you and would love to start a relationship. The longer time he spends chasing after you should be a sign of how much he wants you, how patient, resilient and serious he is about being with you. It is not an indication of how long he should spend brooding over the relationship you refused him. In Jemimah’s case, the said guy chased her for ten months and to no avail. Apparently, she expected that it should take him another 3 years before he had any rights to get into another relationship, talk less of getting engaged. For your information, it doesn’t happen that way. As long as a relationship does not ensue between you both, a guy reserves the right to move on to another lady, and also has the right to get into another relationship as soon as he wants. There is no respecting a relationship that never happened.

3. It doesn’t hurt to respect people’s happy moment.

That a relationship never happened does not mean you cannot be happy for each other. Even exes who dated for years still find a way to share in each other’s happy moments. It then beats imagination that you would be unhappy that a former toaster has moved on and is now set to marry another. You only do this when you regret your decision to refuse him a relationship. Even that is not the right thing to do. In life, we make good and bad choices, but we cannot afford to dwell on our bad choices. The happier we are for others, the happier we become. A person’s happy moment is not the best time to call them out on social media. Would you be happy if that was done to you?
