Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has taken a swipe at Tottenham over their failure to win a trophy with Harry Kane.

Before the Gunners’ Europa League clash against Olympiacos on Thursday night, Arteta was asked if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deserves silverware for his goal contributions.

The Gabon international is the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy on 17 goals this campaign.

But Arteta responded by highlighting the fact that Kane’s 30 league goals in the 2016-17 campaign wasn’t enough to fire Spurs to the title as they finished second to Chelsea.

‘Harry Kane has scored 30 goals [in 2016/17] but never won the Premier League, you know,’ said the Arsenal manager

‘So it’s a good example of players doing phenomenally well, but unfortunately, there’s a lot of top teams in the country and only one wins the league.

‘You can’t have everything in life.’

Arteta faces the tough task of keeping hold of Aubameyang in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona still interested after coming close to swooping the forward in January.

The 30-year-old has just 18 months remaining on his current deal at the club, and talks of an extension are reportedly stalling due to his wish for Champions League football.

After scoring twice in the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday, Arteta hailed captain Aubameyang as the team’s ‘most important player’.

He added: ‘So as much as I can and the club can, we will try to convince him to stay with us.’
