Meet The Only Arsenal Player That Doesn’t Enter Aeroplane (Aviophobia) Fear Of Flying

Dennis Nicolaas Bergkamp is a Dutch former professional football who has played at Ajax, Inter milan Before finally retiring at Arsenal.

Bergkamp’s is also known as the Non-flying Dutchman, a nickname he received due to his fear of flying.



This condition really limited his ability to play in away matches in European competitions and to travel with the national team. In some cases, he would travel by car or by train, but the fixtures of some matches were so tight that he would not travel at all.



Many believed that the fear started when the engine of their plane cut out during the 1994 world cup while some believed it was because of a joke made by journalists about having a bomb in his bag but he debunked the claims stating that his phobia was caused by his time at Inter Milan, in which they regularly travelled to away games in small aeroplanes.




In Arsenal's Champions League match against Lyon in February 2001 Bergkamp had to travel by train and car.
