''It's a total waste!'' Nigerians Say As They Roast MTNN After Keyamo Thanked Telco For Bonus Airtime Received

Nigerians indeed have no chill and trust them to always spill the beans. This was exactly the case earlier on Thursday afternoon as the Minister of Stae For Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo shared the message he had just received from MTN on his Twitter account.




In response to the bonus that was credited to him by MTN Nigeria after he used the special USSD code *888*, he tweeted saying, ‘’Thanks to @MTNNG for this message I got: ‘Stay Safe! Recharge N1000 and get N5000 to CALL ALL NETWORKS. Dial*888*PIN# to recharge. Bonus valid for 30 days. To view bonus, dial *559*14#’


That’s N4000 free airtime! Kindly extend to ALL users. I just recharged N5000 & got N12,500’’

But Nigerians wasted no time in pointing out to him that this wasn’t anything new and that rather the telco company wasn’t really giving anything free as the tariff would see to it that the free airtime runs out in no time.

The *888* is a scam code introduce by MTN since 2017. When you call, MTN will charge you at exorbitant rate like 0.80k/Per Second. At the end of your call you'll realised you still spent the same value on call Per Minute like the normal *555*MTN is dubious’’ however the MTN Nigeria Twitter support handle @MTN180 was quick to try to offer an explanation which unfortunately seemed to make matters worse as more Nigerians called the telco out.

It said, ‘’Y'ello, so sorry to make you feel this way. Please permit me to correct this impression. When making calls via the AWUF4U offer (*888*), your national calls are charged at 57.33k/sec and not 0.80k/sec. Also, if you run out of data, you can use the AWUF4U airtime to browse. ^JO/1’’ but @Matthew_iji, replied rather sarcastically saying, ‘’We understand! give with the left hand and take with the right.’’ While another user, @dr_greaty replied saying, ‘’*888 recharge isn't new and hey, it doesn't last.

It's a total waste. This is how much you've lost touch with reality in the nation.’’

This is what they have doing since. And the tarrif they charge is different from the ones they charge for normal recharge.

If MTN wants to support us in this time of crisis, let them do sincerely, not giving with right hand and collect with left. It's pathetic
