Villarreal defender takes English lessons after Santi Cazorla confirms calls from Arsenal

The highly-rated Spanish defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Arsenal reported to be among the interested clubs






Villarreal defender Pau Torres has admitted that he is taking English lessons, amid speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal.



Reports claim the 23-year-old centre-back is a summer target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, after his impressive season in La Liga.

The Gunners are thought to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window, and Torres fits the bill.


Acquiring the highly-rated defender will be no easy task, however, after he signed a new contract in October which reportedly contains a £43million release clause.








After impressing on loan at second-tier side Malaga last season, Torres has become a regular for Villarreal this season, but the Spanish international has admitted that he is broadening his horizons by learning English - something which could serve him well should a move to England materialise.

“In the morning I do the training regime and then I do the food following the guidelines established by the club," he told El Periodico Mediterraneo.

"In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages ​​because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it."

Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla previously confirmed that the Gunners' interest in Torres.

Cazorla, who is a current teammate of the defender at Villarreal, revealed that he had received calls from his former club regarding the centre-back and winger Samuel Chukwueze.

"Yeah, mainly my Arsenal friends," Cazorla told Marca, when asked whether he had spoken to anyone at the Emirates about Torres.

"They ask me about them and they think that they can make the jump to the Premier League soon.

"It's good that big clubs are interested in the young players at Villarreal but, for the moment, I'm asking them to let them stay here. They still have to make more steps [in their development].

"Those two have great personalities and their feet are on the ground.

"In Pau's case, I'm constantly hearing talk about Manchester City or Barcelona, but he knows that he has to keep improving as a player and we'll see how far he can go in the future."
