Denis Suarez has taken issue with Unai Emery’s claim that Arsenal fans contributed to his downfall.

Arsene Wenger’s successor was sacked in November following a calamitous run of results which culminated in an embarrassing Europa League defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, played out in front of a half empty Emirates Stadium.

Emery had led Arsenal to the Europa League final and within a point of a top four place in his first season in charge, but a disappointing January transfer window, during which he was able to sign only Suarez on loan from Barcelona, played a key role on him failing to meet his targets.
Following his departure, however, Emery cited a lack of unity among that fanbase as a key issue he was forced to content with during his time in north London.

‘There were several problems: four captains; the [Mesut] Ozil – [Sead] Kolasinac case; [Nicolas] Pepe’s signing, which needs time to be that of France,’ Emery told Marca back in February.

‘We didn’t play well, that’s for sure. That brought us bad results, there was no improvement, the fans focused on me and they threw me out.’
