“ I Felt Like A Failure For Not Being Able To Pay My Rent” - ID Cabasa Talks About Going Broke

Olumide Ogunade or as he is better known, ID Cabasa is one of the OGs Of the music production front in Nigeria and he doubles as the head of coded tunes that bore the likes of Olamide, Lord Of Ajasa, 2phat, 9ice, seriki, reminisce to name a few.

The OG producer disclosed what it felt like to go broke.

On an IG live session of recent with the popular female rapper, Bouqui, ID Cabasa Disclosed how it felt to be financially incapable and how it took a toll on his mental health.


He likened what he felt like to bring a failure as he couldn’t pay his own house rent and put a shelter over his family’s head.




ID Cabasa’s generous nature as always been an established fact so it didn’t come as a surprise when he said he gave part of the money he had been saving for his rent to two people who desperately needed his help in order to pay for their kid’s school fees and he also described how a certain person called him out.

A particular person solicited at him for assistance but due to his financial constraints at the time he was unable to help him and the guy in question reached out via his Facebook page label him a bad person for not giving him money.

Cabasa who was deeply hurt by this prayed for the man to experience the hardships and hurdles he was going through and later called him to explain how the state of living was for him and his family with them having to live in the studio. However God in his faithfulness saw ID Cabasa bounce back to financial stability.

“There was a time I was looking for house rent yet I gave money to two people for their kids’ school fees. Then, a certain guy came to me asking for transport fare and I told him that I would help him get money from some other folks in church.

I started asking around but that day, I could not get money for the guy. I was so shocked when the next day, the guy wrote an epistle about me on Facebook, saying I was a very bad person, with all the money that I had. I cried.

“What I told God that day started changing a lot of things for me. People should learn from this. There are times you do things out of indiscretion and you unknowingly destroy yourself. I remembered that I went back home and prayed that God should give that guy the full details of what I was going through. What I meant at that time was that God should make him go through what I was going through.

“Two days later, I was going through the scriptures and read the part where immediately Job finished praying for his friend, God restored him. So, I prayed for the guy. But, after praying for him, it was still on my mind. I had to call him and tell him what I was going through. I brought him to the studio and showed him all my luggage, saying me and my family had been living here for a while. He felt bad, apologised and left.

“My pain was the springboard for me to be well established. I learnt a lot during that time. It was like my own lockdown. At that time, I thought I was a failure. With everything I knew and the depth I had, I (still) felt I was a failure. I thank God I learned the lessons and was able to bounce back.”




The legendary producer’s last product in the industry was Olamide and Pheelz. Olamide was a rapper signed under his coded tunes imprint while Pheelz was a production trainee of ID Cabasa before the duo journeyed off to set up new camp which they named YBNL. Since then, ID Cabasa has remained a godfather to the duo and Olamide reciprocated all the good things the man did for him by buying him a house on the island. 9ice also did an album which he dedicated to the man for all his impact in his life.
