Meet The 14Year Old Congolese Boy That Gave A New Twist To The "Black Lives Matters" - Backed By CNN

Noah, a slender teenager wearing jeans and sneakers, is bent on ensuring that the statue of King Leopold II. The statue, set high on a concrete plinth, has stood opposite the Royal Palace in Brussels since 1926

.




With only history and an online petition,Noah(14years old) is determined to make a difference and brings to justice in a new twist, the controversial statue of a king who deals massively in the export, maltreatment and exploration of numbers of African countries especially Congo.





Noah's parents are from what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the late 19th century, the country -then personally owned by Leopold II; notorious for the inhumane, disheartening, and horrific treatment of indigenous black population.





It was on record that his troops were subsequently ordered to collect the hands of victims, who were often shot for resisting slave labour. He is also on record to have imported Congolese for a human zoo in Belgium.






"I feel belittled, because it is people of my origin and community who were killed," explained Noah, the statue of Leopold II towering above him. "For me when you put a statue of Hitler in Berlin, for me, that is like putting up a statue of Leopold in Brussels."



With the recent killing of a black man, George Floyd, by members of the Minneapolis police department, which caused nation-wide protest and stir the world's sympathy, statues of people who associated or dealt in slave trade and its related vices have been uprooted, broken or thrown in rivers. Noah set up an online petition to have Brussels' memorials to Leopold torn down. He called it "Reparons l'histoire" (Let's repair history). The petition already has 80,000 signatures and counting.



CNN agreed to Noah's request not to use his last name due to the current tense political climate.








Noah opined few Belgians actually understand the historical and tragedic experiences that culminated into the present Congo Free State.
