NCDC reacts as the British govt approves 'Dexamethsaone' as a remedy to the Coronavirus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has officially reacted to the British government approval of a less costly and extensively handy drug that saves patients severely ill with Coronavirus.

Recall that British Prime Minister on Tuesday said UK researchers recognized a new drug, which is high-quality and has reduced Coronavirus deaths risk.

The drug identified as Dexamethasone has decreased death chance for sufferers in ventilators by one-third and oxygen by one fifth.

Reacting, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in a tweet on its official Twitter handle, said the drug will not be used to deal with sufferers because it has no longer been accepted by the World Health Organization, WHO.


It exclaimed that, “The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is currently aware of recent results from a UK-Government funded clinical trial for Coronavirus.

“The outcomes support the use of Dexamethsaone as a viable treatment to decrease the risk of death among Coronavirus patients, who require mechanical or oxygen ventilation.

“Please be aware that the Government of Nigeria has now not validated or accredited any treatment for Coronavirus.

“In addition, the use of Dexamethasone for Coronavirus treatment has never been validated with by the World Health Organization.”
