Jose Mourinho aims a swipe at the FA using Matteo Guendouzi as an example

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at the English FA over the decision to fine Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi as they wait on a verdict on Eric Dier.

The FA is yet to make a decision over Dier’s behaviour after he stormed the crowd to remonstrate with a fan following the FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Norwich back in March.

There is fear that the player might receive a punishment over his conduct and speaking ahead of their game against Sheffield, Mourinho said that he expected a decision as that of Guendouzi since both actions were made in the moment.

"I think they made a decision when Guendouzi grabbed the other guy by his neck. The decision was made in that moment,” he said.


Asked whether he is expecting Dier to be banned, Mourinho added: “What do you want me to expect?”

Dier was understood to be protecting his brother, who had been receiving abuse in the stands and an investigation on the matter had started but it was halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Guendouzi caused a stir last month when he grabbed Neal Maupay neck after the Arsenal team had accused the striker of intentionally injuring their goalkeeper Leno.
