463 new cases of Covid-19 push Nigeria's total to 33,153 and death toll now 754

The Nigeria centre for disease control NCDC, on Tuesday announced that the country has recorded 463 new cases of corona virus bringing the total of infections in Nigeria to be 33,616.

NCDC disclosed this on their official Twitter handle.

"On the 14th of July 2020, 463 new confirmed cases and 10 death recorded in Nigeria.

As at now, No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

Till date, 33,616 cases have been confirmed, 13,792 cases have been discharged and 754 has reported across all States and FCT".




The new cases are reported from 17 states which are

Lagos —118, Kwara— 92, Enugu —89, Delta —33, Edo—29, Plateau —28, Kaduna —23, Oyo —15, Ogun—14, Abia—8, Bayelsa —5, Ekiti —3, Borno —2.

774,000 jobs: Federal government officially begins recruitment


The special public works (SPW) program which was suspended by the national assembly, has officially kickoff and hoped to give 774,000 employees their job.

The federal government confirmed to all Nigeria citizens via its official Twitter handle.

The tweet read, "the state selection committes have been inaugurated and have commenced work". The Tweet read before adding a link for the names and contact details of members of state committees

President Buhari had approved the programme, as part of the fiscal stimulus measures to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic and will use 1000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas across the country.

850 Nigeria refineries and oil workers sacked

The Unions (NUPENG and PENGASSAN) on Monday alleged that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) sacked 850 contract workers.

The Union in a joint statement made available, said the workers were sacked from their duty post at the nation refineries.

The statement was sighed by the national president of NUPENG, Williams Akporena and the national president of PENGASSAN, Ndukaku Ohari as well as the NUPENG general secretary, Afolabi Olawale and general secretary of PENGASSAN, Lumumba Okugbawa.

They noted that the statement include claimed that the refiners has not been working for three years and workers have been receiving salaries and promotion, the workers are responsible for the sorry state of the refineries and that the Union threatened to go on strike when the NNPC threatened to sack support staff.

Osinbajo clears air on 2023 presidential ambition.

Osinbajo, the vice president of Nigeria has no intention of contesting to be president in 2023, according to his special assistance on media and publicity, Laolu Akande.

In response, Akande insisted that Osinbajo's major focus was to support president Muhammadu Buhari until their tenure elapses.

He said " I'm his spokesman and all I know he want to do is to do his job that he has been given very well and he doesn't have any other plans right now about any such thing.

He has said to me several times, "see laolu, this is not a monarchy, we are going to be hare for four or at best eight years, let's just focus and do the work so that when we are gone, people will say we do this band that. So he is entirely consumed with the job he was given.

I am his spokesperson, he is not interested in contesting for 2023 precedential election, that the point". Akande added.

Bayelsa PDP's primary: supreme court dismisses Alaibe's suit against Governor Douye Diri's Nomination

On Tuesday, the supreme court dismissed a suit by a People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Mr Timo Alaibe challenging the emergence of governor Douye Diri as the candidate of the PDP in the November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state.

It was dismissed by Justice Bode Rhodes Vivour following the dramatic withdrawal by the appellant.

Before the withdrawal, the supreme court's five man panels led by justice Rhodes Vivour had took the competence of the appeal, insisting that it was a pre-primary election issue, which is an internal affairs of the PDP.

However, spirited efforts by Alaibe's lawyer to convince the apex court that the issue related to the primary election were rejected by the court, which insisted that it can only adjudicate on a primary election by a contestant that participated in the pool and not in an internal affairs of any political party.

At this point, Adedipe, who claimed to have understood and appreciated the hunt of the court announced the withdrawal of the appeal and was subsequently dismissed.
So sad!! Nigeria police officers Killed in Road way accident


At least seven police officers were killed and another 11 injured in a road way accident in Northern Nigeria last weekend, officials announced on Tuesday.

The officers "died in a ghastly motor accident on 12th of July 2020 on their way to Kastina state" Nigeria police force tweeted on their official Twitter handle.

"The deceased were part of an individual deployment made recently by the force to boost the ongoing fight against bandits in Birnin-Gwari, Kastina state.

The unfortunate incident, which involved an 18 seater Toyota Hummer bus conveying 18 personnel of the unit, occurred at Taji town along Kaduna-Zaria Road".

NLC hails Federal government for remitting N7.45B workers retirement benefits

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended the federal government for remitting N7.45B accrued rights and benefits into the retirement savings account of federal retires covering April and May 2019.

The NLC president, Ayuba Wanna, described the development as a responsible move by the government. He said

" We write to command the federal government for its recent decision to release the total sum of 7.45 billion accrued right and benefits into the RSA of federal retires covering April and may 2018.

This responsible move by the federal government has come at a very critical time considering the adversity imposed in our retires and pensioners by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mean while, Ayuba has called for the implementation declaration which calls for universal access to social protection for all workers and emphasizes the continued relevant of the employment relationship as a means of providing certainty and legal protection to workers.
Nigeria Police rescued soldiers from Boko Haram

The Nigeria police counter terrorism operative have rescued two soldiers carrier abducted by Boko Haram fights in Borno state. The terrorist had killed some security personnel and abducted others after an attack on soldiers.

This comes after Nigerians troops repelled an attempt by terrorists to seize an army barrack in Maiduguri on early Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in protection development, Nigerian troops have thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorist to seize an army barrack in Maiduguri but were resisted after heavy exchanges of fire that lasted for about two hours between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
