Tinubu has this Unique Design on Many of His Caps, See What the Design Means according to Tinubu

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu (born 29 March 1952) is a Nigerian Political giant who hails from Osun State, South-West Nigeria.

The Jagaban of Borgu Kingdom in Niger State is one of the National leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in Nigeria at the moment.


The former Governor of Lagos State (1999-2007), Bola Tinubu is known for having a particular design embroidered on many of his caps for many years which many may have noticed but not many know it's meaning.

The design which looks like a disconnected number "8" has quite a deep meaning, to Tinubu according to his words.

In 2016, Sun publishing limited led by the Managing Director/ Editor in-Chief, Mr. Eric Osagie engaged the astute politician in a no-holds barred interview in his Freedom House Office at Victoria Island, Lagos State. During this interview, Bola Tinubu explained the meaning behind the unique design on many of his caps.

During the said interview Bola Tinubu was asked, "This your cap has become your trademark; we do not know what it is. If you place it down, anybody who sees it would identify it as yours; how did you come about the design?"

Giving a reply to the above question, Tinubu's response can be found below.

Tinubu said, “Philosophically, it is my belief and faith in education, freedom fighting. On my cap is a broken shackle. It is freedom. The shackle is broken and you cannot put us in bondage anymore. You have broken the shackle of poverty, ignorance, disease,”

Tinubu added, “You develop the capacity to improve the quality of the lives of the people. It has been my philosophy and it will remain my philosophy.

My office’s symbol is Freedom House. Freedom means everything to me, the freedom of man. You can find me on the street fighting against injustice.”

If one looks closely at Bola Tinubu's political career, he has always fought to disrupt the statis quo.

From when he continued governing Lagos State despite being denied federal allocation for creating new local governments, to orchestrating the political merger which disrupted the continuous years of dominance of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) over Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has indeed broken shackles.

The Party merger notably by Bola Tinubu and otehr top Nigerian Politicians gave birth to APC which produced Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria's President for the first and second term.

The politician is respected by many, some of who compare him to late Political icon of the South-Western Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo who Bola Tinubu claims to learn from.
