"We Lost ₦807 Million When EndSARS Protesters Attacked Our Office" - NPA Boss Tells Senate

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority, Mrs. Hadiza has spoken about the losses they incurred after the End SARS protest in October of this year.

Recall that in October, youths across the country had gathered on the streets to protest an end to police brutality across the nation and had also called for a disbandment of the unit.

Mrs. Hadiza while appearing before the Senate yesterday the 14th of December 2020 said that a significant part of their office for burnt, 3 cars got stolen while 27 more vehicles were burnt and some office equipment were also carted away. According to her, it puts the amount to 807 million naira.

"As it relates to every other aspect of the building, we had made a detailed submission, attaching a bill of quantity of ₦807 million as the cost of rehabilitating the aspect of the building that were set on fire,” she said.

“As it relates to our motor vehicles, 27 vehicles were set on fire. Three vehicles were stolen, one of the vehicles was recovered".

The NPA boss further revealed that only one vehicle was recovered out of the three carted away, she further said that they are in talks with the insurance company to see what portion of their loss is secured by the insurance as they do not default in their insurance obligations.

In her words “We are going through the process of insurance claims to see what portion of insurance were made available because the Nigerian Ports Authority meets up with all its insurance obligations.”
