See what Nigerians living abroad shared as experiences they had in their new environments that sent them into waves of cultural shock.

For the purpose of education, cultural shock is the feeling of doubt, nervousness and unpleasant state one finds him or herself when in a completely new or different environment.

A Twitter user known as Olabinjo took to his Twitter handle to ask Nigerians that are living abroad to share with people just an experience they had that sent them into waves of cultural shock.

However, the experiences shared by Nigerians abroad on their initial arrival to their new environments shows the unfamiliarity with the new culture, attitudes and way of life they were subjected to before they adapted.

According to someone that shared the communication problem he had on his arrival at his new environment said for sometimes, he would bow to greet a professor who also studied him and began reciprocating same while someone also said on his arrival abroad, he became angry and thought they were racists, after he stood for 2 hours waving at moving buses and none stopped carrying him.



Furthermore, another person said he was ill and couldn't step outside of his flat, when he was being approached by his neighbour, he asked for 'drugs' and the neighborhood was dumbfounded at his request, hence, he stopped calling it drug, but medication or medicine while someone said that the first day he visited a supermarket, he told the cashier he wanted to buy a 'nylon' and the cashier was confused at what he wanted until he said a 'nylon bag' and the cashier responded a bag.


It's imperative, one knows the culture and as well, understands to a moderate level the language of the country to be visited, so that one doesn't look like a fool in their faces. What are your views about this?
