Solskjaer says it is too early for Pogba to start after naming him on bench

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said it is too early for Paul Pogba to start for Manchester United after naming the midfielder on the bench for the Premier League game against Newcastle.

"Andreas (Pereira) and Mason (Greenwood) have done well and they'll give us fresh legs," Solskjaer told MUTV. "Paul (Pogba) it's too early to demand too much of him. He's worked really hard but then it's been a long lay off. We'll have to drip feed him in and gradually play him more and more."

It's a busy time of year with United having three games in six days and despite the terrible performance against Watford Solskjaer only made two changes to the side that started at Vicarage Road with Andreas Pereira and Mason Greenwood coming in for Jesse Lingard and Daniel James.

The United manager was asked what he had planned to navigate through the busy festive fixture list.

"Let's see how today goes and then we'll know what to do against Burnley, even though I've got a team in my mind, in football you can never be surprised if something different happens," he said.

"Last week was disappointing, this season we have done well and bounced back we have lost once in each month so we have always bounced back and haven't lost two on the bounce this season so hopefully that will continue."
