Rome: two deaths from Corona virus: Italy bans carnivals and services

After further infections and two deaths become known, the fear of the spread of the novel corona virus grows in Italy. In Lombardy, 46 infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus had been recorded by Saturday evening, according to authorities. The number of records in Veneto rose to twelve, as the region’s president, Luca Zaia, reported. In the evening, a contagion was reported in the Piedmont region, which is related to the outbreak in Lombardy. In total, more than 60 documents were recorded in the country on Saturday. This makes Italy the European country with by far the largest number of Sars CoV-2 infected people. To date, 16 cases have been reported in Germany and 12 in France, including one death.

Accordingly, the pathogen was detected, among other things, in the woman and a daughter of the man, who is probably Italy’s first reported Covid 19 death victim. The Italian civil defense spoke of a second victim, the death of which is probably due to the lung disease Covid-19 caused by Sars-CoV-2. The first reported death is a 78-year-old in Veneto, the second a woman in Lombardy.

The pensioner died on Friday before there was a definitive confirmation of coronavirus infection, it was said. Sars-CoV-2 was posthumously proven in the 77-year-old from Lombardy, who died on Thursday, that she would now be listed as a Covid-19 fatality, even if it is unclear exactly what she died of, said the Lombardy health commissioner, Giulio Gallera, With.

50,000 residents called to stay at home

In ten municipalities in Lombardy, schools and most of the shops were temporarily closed. Around 50,000 residents are encouraged to stay at home if possible. Major events such as services, carnivals and sports events were prohibited. Measures have also been prepared in Veneto to prevent the virus from spreading further. Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte met for crisis talks with the country’s civil protection authority. “New extraordinary measures” should be considered, wrote Conte on Facebook.

On Saturday morning, an army plane landed in Rome with 19 Italians who had been quarantined for two weeks on board the “Diamond Princess” cruise ship in Japan. They are now being put under quarantine in a military complex in Rome. The passengers of the “Diamond Princess” had hundreds of infected, two Japanese died.

Good news came to the first three known infected people in Italy – an Italian who returned from the Chinese city of Wuhan, which was badly affected by the epidemic, and an elderly Chinese tourist couple. The Italian recovered from the infection, his discharge is imminent, said the treating Roman Spallanzani hospital. The virus was also no longer detectable in the Chinese husband.

According to evidence from the tourist couple, Italy suspended air traffic with China and issued a “Corona emergency” for six months on January 31 – this would allow funds to fight the virus to flow more quickly. Rome stuck to the ban on landing, even when China and European countries criticized it as exaggerated. (AP)
