Gundogan picks 'best' Premier League defender he would want Man City to sign

Ilkay Gundogan believes Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu could be a perfect signing for Manchester City.

The German international, who's born to Turkish parents, further thinks the Leicester defender is the best in the Premier League, only behind Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

Soynncu's performances for the Foxes this campaign have attracted the attention of a number of clubs, with Man City particularly said to be interested in his services.

“I agree with the general opinion of the football public. In this season, Çaglar Soyuncu had the best performance in the Premier League after Van Dijk," Gundogan said while speaking to Fanatik, a Turkish outlet.

"I didn't know him before. We met when we met in matches. In addition to the Premier League games two seasons ago, we also matched with Leicester City in a cup. We became competitors in many matches. We always saw and talked to each other.

"We started getting to know each other. His football understanding and character are also very good. His performances for both Leicester and the national team have been good."

“The first thing that comes to my mind about the Turkish player I want to see in Manchester City is Caglar," Gundogan said.

"I can also count Cenk Tosun. He may be at this level in the coming periods. I think he also played well, suffering an unlucky injury."

City failed to replace immediate former captain Vincent Kompany last summer, a decision that came to haunt them as injuries to key defenders forced coach Pep Guardiola to use midfielder Fernandinho in defence.

They have struggled defensively for much of the campaign, and are currently 25 points off league leaders Liverpool.
